Cautiously we crept around the next bend, poling through rustling reeds, invisible among them; for now we were at the eastern edge of the forest, which we had guarded as chilÂ�dren—actually on the edge of the Human kingdom. I stood up to look over the swaying reeds and the bank and saw again the kingdom stretch out before me.
